Dashain Blessings – Blessings for Male & Female Giving on the Vijayadashami Day

Dashain Blessings – Blessings for Male & Female Giving on the Vijayadashami Day

Blessings for Dashain: The blessing is one of the key characteristics of Nepali culture. Normally, there is the practice of blessing by senior family members, priests, saints, and even contemporaries and minors during several occasions and festivals. The blessing is given even by the deprived communities to others. Similarly, there is the practice of blessing even among couples, lovers, and friends. Blessing within such groups is known as wishing.

There is the wider practice of blessing especially by seniors or priests to the family members while celebrating different rituals and festivals. In such occasions, some sacred Sanskritwordings, called Mantras, also use to be pronounced/chanted. This is done even during Dashain festival while offering the sacred residues of the worshipped materials (Tika,Jamara, and Tilak (black paste made by the residue of yagna produced carbon paste to be ticked between two eyebrow), Toran (threads of red and white plain clothes’ offered to mother Goddess Durga etc Prasad).

A mantra is a Sanskrit word which denotes something like the formula as said in English used to achieve some objective. The mantra could be of the single alphabet, a single word, words, one stanza and more than a stanza and so on. There are so many types of mantras in Hinduism, Buddhism, and even in other religions with own specification and norms regarding the process about of used and pronouncing and timing. Generically, most of the mantras are in the Sanskrit language. As per Vedic Philosophy (may also be considered as ancient quantum physics), each mantra, even the word or an alphabet of mantra has its power. In Shreemad Bhagwatgeeta, Lord Krishna thyself have elaborated the power and significance of each alphabet letters that we pronounce and use:

One of the reasons for not assigning such names may be due to the belief that assigning such name having negative image may cause similar characteristics to the namee. For example; if somebody is given the name of Sachidananda or Shayta the person will have quality being to thinking and following truthfulness and the persons and known for getting the name of Dushasana and Ravana the persons may develop similar notorious qualities and this is also a strong belief among a majority of people in the country. The same is applicable even in blessing.

Dashain Tika Jamara

So blessing is the impartial part of the Dashain festival and, today we are going to write our article about the blessing that is given for the occasion of Dashain. Here we have subgrouped the blessings, on the basis of gender. The blessing is given in a different way as per gender. Normally Blessing is given in typical Nepali language, and some of the Sanskrit words are also used for blessing. Here we have Romanized those typical blessing spoken in Nepali, that are commonly practiced, and if you feel easy you can say them in English, it’s no more different than wishes that are given for the occasion of Dashain. Which is written as “Jayanti Mangala Kali, Vadrakali kapalini, Durga chhyama Siva dhatri, swaha sada namastute” which really mean as

you can use it while blessing in English like

Blessing for male

And the next mantra used for blessing the male persons has been composed in such a way encouraging and motivating them to be ideal personality like some Gods, Incarnations, Kings, historical intellects, including Honorius like Duryodhana as something like in good sense although he has most of the bad character as mentioned in the Hindus holy book Mahabharat. This mantra forms an important part of the prayers while offering to the God. When called by mantras that carry gods and spiritual vibrations, its believed that superpower responds with a direct power that usually leads well through some cherished part of our ego attachments.

Chanting the mantra while giving the blessing to the young one, is also believed to bring additional concentration and focus in children known for students, and makes them intelligent in the process by sharpening their mind to resolve their problems in studies quickly. Moreover, such type of powerful mantra makes the youngster of today stronger and motivated to achieve their goals despite all the odds faced in a reserved society. Additionally, It is believed that this mantra also wards away the bad eye and evil that can harm you.

We have written here in English in Romanian form of Devnagari script.if you wish to give in English with the same typical feeling. Or you are from the foreign and don’t know the Nepali language very well, then don’t worry, we have written here the English meaning of blessing that are commonly used. Which is written as

  • Ayu Drona sute, Sriyem Dasarathae, Satru Chheyam Raghabe
Aishoryei Nahushe Gatischa pawane Manancha Duryodhane
Sourya Shanta nabe, Balam Haldhare, Satyanta Kunti Sute
Bigyani Bidure Bhawati Bhabatam, Kritischha Narayane

Elder’s chant this mantra and bless the youngers with Tika in head and Jamara in ears. Which actually is:

Ayu Drona sute, Sriyem Dasarathae , Satru Chheyam Raghabe
Aishoryai Nahushe, Gatischa pawane, Manancha Duryodhane
Sourya Shanta nabel, Balam Haldhare, Satyanta Kunti Sute
Bigyani Bidure Bhawati Bhabatam, Kritischha Narayane

And you can say in typical English with same sense like

  • May you become immortal like Aswasthama, the son of Dronachary. May your prestige succeed like that of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya. May you become able to wipe out your enemies like Lord Ram. May your material wellbeing thrive like that of King Nahush. May your speed equate with that of the air. May people respect you like they used to respect to prince Duryodhan of Hastinapur. May you become a powerful worrier like Bhismapitama of Mahabharata known for was the son of Santanu. May you become stronger like Balaram, the elder brother of Lord Krishna. May you become truthful like Youdhisthir, the son of Kunti, known for never lied. May you become as wise as the Bidhur. May your glory flourish like that of Lord Bishnu

More easily you can say it like in another way as

  • Belong live like the son of Drona. Be prosperous as Dasaratha. May your offending get down to as of Rama’s.Be with lordship like the king Nahusa. Dynamic as fast as the air. And be Honorius like Duryodhana. Be calm like the sun, Be strength full as Balaram known for holds the plow, and truthful like Yudhistira is known as speak only truth. Be honored with the knowledge like Vidur andHave assets of the Good deed like Narayana or Vishnu.

Which has the same sense as that of previous one, feel easy to select any of them and make the blessing experience awesome. I would express my preference to be blessed in Dashain Tika by the mantra “Jayanti Mangala Kali Bhadrakali Kapalini….” instead of another one which mentions the name of “Duryodhana” because I don’t feel comfortable with the character Duryodhana. Next I also use to be scare what could be the consequence of blessing the people in the name of Duryodhana assuming as an ideal personality like other Gods, Sages, and Kings and underestimating even the truthful king Yudhistira! but it’s your own option to choose any of them.

If you prefer some blessing in Nepali language commonly practice which would help you to express more closeness. Here we have written in Romanian Devanagari script, hoping you would feel easy to read it.
